The foundation doctors in the haem team
Come to see me each day.
They need a blood sample and set a good example,
Of best practice - that goes without say.
They take time to talk,
and to know me a bit,
To ensure I’m getting fit, fit, fit.
To ensure I’m getting fit.
If I’ve a problem or question to ask,
They always look for a solution.
Using lateral thinking or brainstorming with others,
To find a resolution.
They want the best for me - their patient
Never are they complacent, complacent, complacent.
Never are they complacent.
After four months on the ward, the doctors move on,
It’s a rota of experience they need.
To further their knowledge and learn new skills,
So important for them to succeed.
As compassionate professionals,
Their attitude to training makes them fully aware,
Of working with humility and care, care, care.
Of working with humility and care.
The foundation doctors were a good-hearted, conscientious group of people who went out of their way to answer my queries, find out information and learn themselves. They were an essential part of my care and the friendly face of the medics. They also came from a variety of different backgrounds and represented a changing future workforce. This poem is inspired by Edward Lear’s “The Owl and the Pussycat”.
Flynne’s Barn is a place where young people living with cancer can come together and find connection in beautiful surroundings and provides a range of immersive outdoor and creative experiences. I am sharing one poem per day during September 2022 to raise money for this charity. To DONATE, visit my GO FUND ME page. Many thanks.
