A mesostic is a poem where the stem word runs through the centre of the words, unlike an acrostic where the stem word is the first letter of each word. Alec Finlay, a Scottish poet and artist first introduced me to these through his work, “A Mesostic Remedy”. In these, the words when read together create a reflective phrase. I created this mesostic to record the medications that I was given in my first few rounds of chemotherapy. It lacks the phrasing traditionally associated with a mesostic but served a purpose in helping me learn about each drug or treatment I received. A list making poem! What fun!

Flynne’s Barn is a place where young people living with cancer can come together and find connection in beautiful surroundings and provides a range of immersive outdoor and creative experiences. I am sharing one poem per day during September 2022 to raise money for this charity. To DONATE, visit my GO FUND ME page. Many thanks.

Leukaemia UK makes a difference to families affected by blood cancer by funding innovative research into better care and treatments, funding emotional support, key hospital facilities and providing critical financial relief.
