My hair is shedding everywhere
Over my pillow, on the stair
In the bathroom, on the floor
Under the bed, there’s lots more.
Strands are found in my food
Inside my jacket, under the hood
Any place that I look, even in a tiny nook!
Wisps are here and wisps are there
My hair is shedding everywhere.
This poem is based on the structure of Eleanor Farjeon’s “Cats Sleep Anywhere” poem which was the first one I remember learning as a 4-year old starting school. The hair truly does get everywhere and wearing a hat helped to contain the shedding along with daily combing. This photo is the only one I have of me wearing a wig and looking ever so posh!
Flynne’s Barn is a place where young people living with cancer can come together and find connection in beautiful surroundings and provides a range of immersive outdoor and creative experiences. I am sharing one poem per day during September 2022 to raise money for this charity. To DONATE, visit my GO FUND ME page. Many thanks.
CaringBridge is not a blood cancer specific organisation but has been a communication lifesaver. It’s a platform for keeping everyone updated about illness or other big life experiences. You can see mine here. It can be overwhelming dealing with well-meant enquiries and good wishes so having everything in one place is helpful. My family - many of whom don’t do social media - were also overwhelmed by the volume of support from so many amazing and kind people who cared to leave a comment, upload a photo and so on. Thank you a million times xxx
PS CaringBridge also have this article about cancer-related hair loss.
