My universe explodes - space collapses
Time sags, slows and spirals
Into the black hole inside me
A billion stars glitter their promises
I am light years from reaching them
Lost in interstellar space
A new sea of gravitational reality
Ripples through me
Somehow rebirth begins
Being given a blood cancer diagnosis was a very surreal moment. It’s a time that stands still and the space between you, inside and outside your body and the doctor is the equivalent of straddling different universes. Like other significant life events, it’s also a moment that remains with you, forever imprinted into your memory. It is the end of one part of your life and the beginning of another and a venture into the unknown. On a more humorous note, years ago when I had just set up Creative STAR, I was invited to sponsor a UFO stake out, the reason being "There's nowhere more outdoors than outer space." Whilst I politely declined the offer, I still love this as an idea and enjoy looking up :)
Flynne’s Barn is a place where young people living with cancer can come together and find connection in beautiful surroundings and provides a range of immersive outdoor and creative experiences. I am sharing one poem per day during September 2022 to raise money for this charity. To donate, visit my Go Fund Me page. Many thanks.
The Moment of Diagnosis
Oh, how well I know that moment.
Glad I discovered this place to connect!
It's amazing how a body/brain can cope with those two realities. One emotional and one practical.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow's poem journey xx
