One challenge of writing a book is that you never quite know how it will be received by its readers. The sales of a book vary enormously. Sometimes they exceed expectations, as with Dirty Teaching and Messy Maths. Unfortunately, there are times when sales are quite low.
The exact royalties received depend upon various matters. The percentage depends on the contract. The amount relates to the income received by the publishing company. Thus a discounted book price is great for the reader but means less money earned by the publishing company and therefore less royalties to the author.
All royalties from Blood Lines are going to be donated to “UK Cancer Charities”. I realise that this is a vague definition. I spent a while searching online for ones that I feel best match my values. Reasons for making the list include:
I have used their services.
To support children and young people.
Local charity organisations.
A focus on support and care for those going through cancer treatment and beyond.
End-of-life care
Every six months a charity from the list below will receive the royalties from the proceeds of Blood Lines sales. It is pot luck how much will be received as it all depends on book sales. The list is in no particular order. Whilst I hope readers will find the book a moving/interesting/fabulous/heartwarming/honest/(insert your own adjective) read, it’s important to me that I do not benefit financially from its publication.
I’ve put the list in alphabetical order, but Crown House may vary the order. Also charities aims and values change so occasionally the list will be changed to reflect this if required.
Finally Blood Lines is steadily becoming more available to pre-order. At the moment, you can do this at Blackwells, Brown’s Books, Amazon UK, WH Smiths, Hive, Barnes & Noble (US), The Portobello Bookshop nr Edinburgh, Waterstones, Poetry Pharmacy
Book pre-ordered from Amazon. I look forward to reading especially because of who you are supporting
