My poetry collection
I’ve been writing poems since 2021 as my way of processing the impact of having Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) which is an aggressive blood cancer.
The purpose is to raise awareness of Blood Cancer Awareness Month which happens every September. In 2022 and 2023 I published one poem per day with donations throughout the month. The first year I raised over £3000 for Flynne’s Barn that offers creative, outdoor residential experiences for young people who have undergone cancer treatment. The second year I raised a similar amount of money for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust where the focus is on young people having week-long sailing experiences together.
In November 2024 I submitted my manuscript to my publishers, Crown House Publishing. It is called Blood Lines and is a collection of poetry that I wrote documenting my experiences of having AML from diagnosis to terminal prognosis. Finger’s crossed I’ll be alive to see it published.
